From Cradley Heath to California: The Black Country Flag
Born and raised in Cradley Heath, a small industrial town deep in the heart of the Black Country, I've always been drawn to the region's unique character. You see, the Black Country – with its history forged in fire, its smoky skies, and its resilient spirit – has always been a part of me.
Growing up, I was surrounded by the echoes of the past: the clatter of the old factories, the stories of my ancestors who worked in the mines, and the enduring pride of the local community. This deep-rooted connection inspired me to create this artwork, a vibrant reimagining of the Black Country flag.
The flag, with its bold stripes of red, white, and black, mirrors the very essence of the region. The iconic chain links, a nod to our industrial heritage, symbolize the strength and resilience of the Black Country people.
My journey has taken me far from the smoky skies of my youth – from driving a steam roller across the UK (yes, you read that right!) to snowboarding in the Alps and brewing beer with my Dad. But no matter where I roam, the Black Country always remains a part of me.
Today, I live in sunny Los Angeles with my husband, Haruty, and our beloved feline, Moira-Rose. While California may be my current home, the spirit of the Black Country – that blend of grit, humor, and resilience – will always be with me.
I invite you to explore more of my work, from hand-drawn sketches to vibrant paintings, all inspired by my roots in the Black Country and my passion for life's adventures.
