SJ Moon’s Home -Made Bread Rolls

Baked with Love: SJ Moon's Bread Roll Journey & Nan's Enduring Legacy

For those who know me as SJ Cooksey, or perhaps through my art as SJ Moon, you know I have a deep love for creating. Whether it's through my drawings, paintings, or, as it turns out, in the kitchen. This week, I decided to dive into a personal passion: baking bread rolls from scratch, a journey that brought back a flood of cherished memories.

It started with the simple act of gathering ingredients: flour, yeast, warm milk, sugar, and salt. As I measured and mixed, I felt a familiar warmth, a connection to the past. You see, baking wasn't just a culinary activity for me; it was a bond, a tradition passed down from my Nan. She was the one who instilled in me the magic of transforming simple ingredients into something truly special.

The yeast, that tiny powerhouse, began its work, transforming the mixture into a soft, pliable dough. Kneading the dough felt like a comforting ritual, a tangible link to those afternoons spent in my Nan's kitchen. Each push and fold was a gentle reminder of her patient hands, guiding mine.

Waiting for the dough to rise was a lesson in patience, a virtue Nan always emphasized. As the dough doubled in size, I imagined her smiling, her eyes twinkling with anticipation. It was as if she were there with me, sharing in the quiet magic of the moment.

Shaping the rolls was a playful, almost artistic process. I channeled my inner SJ Moon, carefully forming each ball of dough, envisioning them as miniature canvases waiting to be transformed. The golden hue that emerged from the oven was a masterpiece in itself, a testament to the simple beauty of homemade baking.

The first bite was a revelation. Warm, soft, and infused with the sweetness of memory, these bread rolls were more than just food; they were a love letter to my Nan, a tribute to her enduring legacy. Sharing them with loved ones felt like sharing a piece of her, a piece of our history.

This baking adventure reminded me that creativity knows no bounds. Whether it's through art or baking, the act of creating is a form of expression, a way to connect with the world and with those we hold dear.
